What Does Workplace Charging Involve?

Why Must the Electrical Supply Be Assessed?

Review the available electrical capacity and discuss load management where it is needed.

Installation, testing and a practical explanation of the charger settings and operation.

EV Charger Installation: What Needs to Be in Place?

EV charger installation involves electrical safety checks, network requirements and, for some work, Building Regulations notification. We can help identify the requirements for your property. The proposal should confirm the relevant approvals, notification responsibilities and documents included in the installation.

What Network Notification or Approval Is Needed?

Your Distribution Network Operator (DNO), which runs the local electricity network, needs to know about the charger. We assess the supply and can handle the relevant application or notification as part of the agreed installation scope. Some installations need approval before connection; the applicable route must be confirmed during planning.

How Do We Assess Electrical Safety and Design?

We assess supply capacity, existing earthing and bonding, cable sizing and the protection your charger needs. We design and install to the applicable BS 7671 requirements, including EV charging provisions, and the manufacturer’s instructions. Any upgrades or load management needed are explained before work starts.

What Electrical Certification Is Required?

A new charging circuit should come with an Electrical Installation Certificate, including inspection and test results and completed declarations for design, construction and verification. We inspect and test our work and provide the completed certificate. This records what was installed and the checks carried out, giving you a useful record for future maintenance or a property sale.

When Is Building Regulations Notification Needed?

In England, a new circuit at a home is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. The appropriate notification route and responsibilities need to be confirmed before installation. We can coordinate this where included in the agreed scope. The resulting Building Regulations certificate is separate from the Electrical Installation Certificate.

How Do We Select Suitable Charging Equipment?

Private home and workplace chargers sold in Great Britain must meet the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations where these apply. We check the equipment we supply and provide the required Statement of Compliance, alongside the product information. We also explain charging schedules and settings so you can use the charger confidently.

What Can the Handover Include?

The handover should include the electrical certification appropriate to the work and the relevant charger instructions. An explanation of settings, warranty information and copies of network or Building Regulations records can be included where applicable to the agreed scope. Third-party confirmations are forwarded when received.

How Does the Work Progress?

We can coordinate the agreed electrical installation from supply assessment to handover. The proposal should identify the equipment, approvals, responsibilities and records included, with any dependencies or outstanding information explained.
